  What is molybdenum?

  Molybdenum (from ancient Greece, molybdos, which means lead) is a set of 6 symbols molybdenum chemical elements with an atomic number of 42. The element of freedom is a silver metal with a high melting point that no element can match. Based on stable carbides, it is often used in high strength steel alloys. Molybdenum does not occur in free metal, but in minerals with different oxidation states. Industrial molybdenum compounds are used for high pressure and high temperature applications, pigments and catalysts.

  Molybdenum is more widely used in the processing industry. Thermal fatigue and mechanical alternating stress at high temperatures cause fatigue cracks. However, the life of the molybdenum based alloy, with small thermal expansion coefficient, strong heat conduction and high temperature strength ,is greatly prolonged.When the British G.K.N company Die Cast watch shell, such as the exquisite parts, life can reach 5000 times, generally 3000 times, bearing production of molybdenum alloy mold than the original high speed steel, bearing steel die life of 15 times.Molybdenum alloy die can be used at 1200 degree temperature when isothermal forging is difficult to deform. Because of the high hardness and high resistance to cold and hot fatigue, the molybdenum base alloy is often used as the head and mould on the seamless pipe piercer, and its life is several hundred times higher than the life of the 3Cr2W8V die steel.

   Abroad, the annual consumption of molybdenum for piston rings and cylinder walls has reached more than 600 t. Molybdenum has high reflectivity to the laser, making it not easy to be damaged by laser. The United States is developing the laser reflector with a diameter of 2.5m and a thickness of 13mm. R.M. Jones (Jouns) believes that molybdenum is very similar to quartz in terms of thermal conductivity and thermal expansion. It is very suitable for making giant computer heart silicon package. it is also a good spray material, which can greatly improve the corrosion resistance of the sprayed parts and extend the life of the components.
