A nickel crucible cannot be used for precipitation burning.
The nickel crucible is suitable for melting samples of NaOH, Na2O2, Na2CO3, NaHCO3 and alkaline solvent containing KNO3, but not for melting samples of KHSO4 or NaHS04, K2S2O7 or Na2S2O7 with acidic solvent and alkaline sulfide flux containing sulfur.
The melting state of Al, Zn, Pb, Sn, Hg and other metal salts, can make the nickel crucible brittle. Nor can borax melt in a nickel crucible.
Nickel crucible often contains trace chromium, use should be noted.
A new nickel crucible should be scorched to a bluish purple in a muffle oven to remove oil stains from the surface, then boiled for a moment with 1:20 HCl, then rinsed with water.
