Hard chromium and chemical nickel have been widely used for their excellent high hardness and high wear resistance. Will such functional coatings be replaced?

   Developed by Science and Technology University , a new type of molybdenum alloy ,with room temperature strength exceeding 1200 Mpa, high temperature strength exceeding 250 MPa and high temperature wear resistance 5 times higher than pure molybdenum ,has been successfully developed and passed the provincial science and technology judgment.

   Molybdenum is an important strategic metal. Molybdenum and its alloys can be used as key components in aerospace industry, such as flame nozzles and combustion chambers of engines, nose cones and nozzles of spacecraft, etc. Their service conditions are harsh, but the high temperature wear resistance of alloys currently used is not ideal.

   It is known that the microhardness of the alloy reaches Hv400 at room temperature, and the particle size of its hard phase alumina is about 500 nm, which bonds well with the interface of molybdenum matrix; the hardness at 1300 C is greater than Hv330, the tensile strength at high temperature is greater than 250 MPa, and the elongation is greater than 20%; the participation of Al2O3 strengthens the molybdenum matrix, which can effectively improve the scratch resistance and ploughing resistance of molybdenum alloy, and the wear resistance is greatly improved, with 10vol% Al2O The high temperature wear resistance of 3/Mo alloy is about 5 times that of pure molybdenum. The high temperature hardness, strength and wear resistance of the new molybdenum alloy are better than those of the traditional TZM rare earth molybdenum alloy.

   Compared with newly developed molybdenum alloys, hard chromium and chemical nickel have hardness up to HV1000 and relatively low production cost, so they can not be completely replaced at present. They will still play an important role in various industries.
