Source And Method Of Waste Tantalum Recovery

      Tantalum resources are low and the price is high. The two resource utilization is of special significance. The two resources of niobium and tantalum include two parts: some are the waste produced during the smelting and processing of tantalum and niobium, and the other part is the discarded components in the use of tantalum and niobium products. At present, tantalum from the two time of resource recovery accounts for about 15% to 20% of tantalum raw materials.

     According to the waste form, tantalum and niobium wastes are mainly three types of pure metals, compounds and alloys. Pure metal waste is usually recovered by chemical cleaning after vacuum furnace smelting, electron beam melting and hydrogenating powder making. Various kinds of waste materials such as compounds and alloys are complex and complex, so various recycling processes have been developed.

 

Recovery of tantalum hard alloy

 

Tantalum carbide is an alloy composed of composite carbides (WC TiC TaC NbC) and titanium cobalt based on tungsten carbide. The composition is complex and the content of tantalum and niobium is low.

Zinc treatment

 

The sintered carbides were first decomposed at 800 C by liquid zinc to break the bond between carbide particles and titanium and cobalt. The decomposer is then distilled and separated by vacuum distillation and recycled. After dezincing, the products are fine grinding and oxidizing, and then alkali treatment and water leaching. Tungsten enters the leach solution in the form of NaWO3 (from which ammonium para tungstate is produced). The detungsten residue is used to extract cobalt and titanium with sulfuric acid (further separation and recovery of cobalt and titanium from sulphuric acid solution). The leaching residue is a tantalum and niobium enrichment. The process flow of this law is shown in the following figure:

 

Recovery of lithium tantalate

      Recovery of waste lithium tantalate mainly includes two types: fire method and wet method. The fire method mainly has aluminum thermal reduction method, that is to use aluminum as a reducing agent, the single crystal powder is reduced to iron niobium or metal tantalum or niobium, and then pure tantalum or niobium is smelted by electron beam furnace. The main process of wet process is alkali treatment.
