Molybdenum is also used as a catalyst in the refining of petroleum. Molybdenum is primarily used as an alloying agent in steel.
Melting Point: 2896 K (2623°C or 4753°F)
Boiling Point: 4912 K (4639°C or 8382°F)
Density: 10.2 grams per cubic centimeter
Molybdenum can be processed into molybdenum wire, plate, alloy and widely used in various industry.
1. Molybdenum wire is mainly used in electric light as source filament, EDM electrode and high temperature furnace heating element;
2. Molybdenum plate and sheet are used for punching into thyristor wafers, tube insulation shields and guide sheets etc.
3. Molybdenum alloy can be used for high quality steel hot piercing head, aerospace and nuclear industry materials, X-ray pole targets and casting molds;
4. Molybdenum shaped products are used as glass melting electrodes, rare earth smelting electrodes, crucibles, high temperature sintering boats, high temperature radiation heat shields, nozzles and guide rails etc.
5. Molybdenum alloy can also be used as a hot cathode material for medium and high power tubes. Molybdenum alloy hot cathode material replaces the current tungsten cathode with higher working temperature, radioactive contamination and higher brittleness, which can greatly reduce the working temperature of the electron tube and improve the reliability.
