Tantalum sheets are generally not corrosion-resistant in alkali, and will become brittle and corrode faster at high temperature and high concentration.

Tantalum sheets can react with high temperature gases (except inert gases). O2, N2, H2, etc. can penetrate into the interior to make it brittle. If it comes into contact with primary ecological H, it will also absorb hydrogen and become brittle. Therefore, tantalum equipment should not be in contact with more active metals (such as Fe, Al, Zn), because tantalum-Iron (Al, Zn) galvanic cells are easy to be formed, and the hydrogen generated by the reaction of the galvanic cells will destroy the tantalum cathode and render the equipment ineffective. If a small piece of platinum with an extremely low hydrogen overvoltage (about 1/10000 of tantalum in area) is connected to tantalum, all hydrogen will be released on the platinum to avoid damage to tantalum by hydrogen.

Tantalum sheet corrosion resistant performance is excellent, but the price is expensive, so its application form are mainly composite board and the lining, and to reduce costs, tantalum layer thickness of hope as thin as possible, so the composite board or the lining welding is very difficult, because the melting point of tantalum material and steel six to one, (tantalum material melting point is 2996 ℃, steel melting point is 1400 ℃) and Fe and Ta at high temperature can form Fe2Ta brittle intermetallic compound, if improper measures, is easy to cause weld cracking.
