Where do we usually use Tungsten wire and Tungsten Wire Products?

Tungsten wire is used in a various number of applications where precision wire is needed. Tungsten wire is mainly used in electric light sources for lamps. The tungsten wire used for various illuminants in the bulb also needs to incorporate a small amount of oxides of potassium, silicon and aluminum in the metallurgy process. This tungsten filament is called doped tungsten wire, also called 218 tungsten wire or non-sag tungsten wire.

Tungsten wires are generally drawn by various wire drawing dies. It is used to manufacture filaments and high-speed cutting alloy steels, optical instruments and chemical instruments.

Tungsten wire is also used as heat-generating materials in high-temperature furnaces, heats of electron tubes, and reinforcing ribs of composite materials.

The filament of a lamp and a tungsten halogen lamp and the electrode of a gas discharge lamp. For the tungsten wire or tungsten rod used as the cathode of the gas discharge lamp, in order to reduce its electron work function, 0.5 to 3% of thorium is added, which is called tungsten thorium wire. Since helium is a radioactive element that pollutes the environment, helium is used instead of tantalum to make tungsten or tungsten rods. However, the evaporation rate of niobium is high, so tungsten or tungsten crucibles can only be used for low-power gas discharge lamps.

Once the tungsten wire is recrystallized after being used at a high temperature, it becomes very brittle and is easily broken under shock or vibration. In some electric light source products requiring high reliability, in order to prevent filament breakage, 3 to 5% of ruthenium is often added to the doped tungsten wire, which is called tungsten ruthenium wire, which can reduce the brittle transition temperature of tungsten to Room temperature or below. This is a very strange enthalpy effect, and it has not been found that an element can replace bismuth and produce the same effect in tungsten.

Tungsten has good acid and alkali resistance at room temperature, but it is easily oxidized in humid air, so fine tungsten wire cannot be stored in a humid environment for too long. In addition, tungsten begins to react with carbon at 1200 ° C to form carbides of tungsten. Therefore, attention should be paid to the problem of hydrogen burning of the filament. Otherwise, the filament will become brittle and fracture when the tungsten reacts with the graphite lubricant on the surface.
