Production process of niobium which is used to make Niobium Alloy Composition Tube

The preparation methods of the metal niobium mainly include the production of niobium by the carbothermal reduction method, the niobium powder production by the aluminothermic reduction method and the niobium powder produced by the sodium thermal reduction method, followed by the niobium powder produced by the molten salt electrolysis method and the niobium reduction method to produce the niobium.

Vacuum carbon reduction

Vacuum carbon reduction method is one of the main methods for producing metal tellurium at home and abroad. Carbon reduction is generally performed in a vacuum carbon tube furnace. This method utilizes the affinity of carbon for oxygen is greater than the affinity of tritium for oxygen, and carbon is used as a reducing agent to reduce Nb2O5 to produce rayon. Its advantages are high product yield (>96%), cheaper reductant, and low production cost. Without the by-products of sodium reduction and other methods, wet processing is required, and higher purity purlins and metal powders can be obtained.

There are two processes, direct carbon reduction and indirect carbon reduction. The technetium produced by direct carbon reduction has a spongy shape, a large surface area, a low metal impurity and nitrogen content, and is advantageous to the specific capacity of the tantalum powder. Therefore, the process is suitable for producing a capacitor-grade tantalum powder. Indirect reduction is characterized by a large production capacity of the equipment, a stable process, a relatively compact metal purlin produced, a relatively uniform external dimensions, and suitable for making purlins, yttrium ingots, and crucibles.

refining of niobium

Niobium, sponge niobium or brittle niobium can be prepared by the reduction of niobium compounds, but these niobium products also contain a certain amount of impurities, in which hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and other impurities are especially easy to make niobium brittle. Therefore, further clearance is needed. There are two main purposes for NB refining, that is, purification and densification, and these two processes are usually completed simultaneously in industrial production.

Because of the strong affinity between oxygen and carbon, niobium can not be made with oxygen and carbonaceous materials, and must be carried out under high temperature and high vacuum conditions, which not only complicates the refining process, but also requires high equipment. The main methods of niobium refining include vacuum sintering, such as niobium vacuum sintering refining, arc smelting, such as niobium vacuum smelting, electron beam smelting, such as niobium electron beam smelting. Electron beam melting is the best and most widely used. In order to get the best purification effect, several refining processes, such as sintered niobium bars and electron beam melting, are often used.
